Title: My Wah Won't Wah! Help!
Post by: rosssurf on October 18, 2010, 12:08:16 AM
I have a factory Budda Wah that doesn't seem to want to wah any more. When I step on the switch the sound comes through just fine but it is my UN wahed guitar tone,... I get no Wah effect!

Is this indicative of any particular part failing?

If the circuit is a typical crybaby/vox/other brand style inductor wah, you should have a volume pedal instead of a wah now?

Broken inductor or the 4.7uF cap is bad. If it were the cap, it should be acting somewhat like a volume pedal. But from your description, my bet is on something being wrong with the inductor or it not actually being in the circuit due to a broken track on the PCB or maybe a bad solder joint.

Thanks everyone for the guidence! I try the suggestions,

Is there a certain inductor that is considered best?

There's a big arguement over which is the 'best'. That's probably not the right question.

What might be better to ask is 'what are some favourites.' That question is easier. I would suggest going to small bear electronics and looking up what inductors they have there. The Halo is a good choice, as is the Red Fasel. I've heard that many people don't like the Yellow Fasel, but I don't know why really.

I personally like the yellow Fasel. I honestly don't hear much difference between red and yellow, seems very subtle to me.

If you can't figure it out, try contacting Budda about fixing it.  They might even do it for free, I've sent pedals back to a couple of manufacturers and they didn't charge me anything.  It's worth a try, anyway.

Hi Rosssurf, just wondering if you ever fixed your wah..i'm having the exact same problem with mine (dunlop crybaby)..I've switched out everything. I've added a 3pdt switch.. I've even put in a new inductor from radio shack (part number 273-1380)..i just cant get this thing to wah..everything passes just fine...i just seem to be dazed and confused over this...any help would be great from anyone on this subject

I actually did get it fixed. It has been a a while and at that time i was working on a few so my memory of what i did is a bit foggy. I know I did NOT replace anything. I Know I opened it up when it was plugged in and made sure the wah was on and poked around at different wires until it intermittently began working. i think it was actually the power jack that had a bad solder joint. I think that was it now that i think about it. let me know what you find out or if I can help more.
