Title: dumb newbe question revisited...tonebender mk II
Post by: pinkjimiphoton on April 20, 2011, 03:38:37 PM
hi, probably a dumb question, but i've been reading tonebender posts all day and my brain is frazzled... :icon_eek:

EDIT>> FOR REAL< i'm editing this cuz i'm so messed up!! lol

i wanna try and build the tonebender mk II, npn negative ground...i have some NTE 103A's kicking around i planned to use, but i need a third NPN transistor.
so here goes dumb newbe question number 2300000000.....

all i have for npn's at the moment is 2n3904's...can i use one of them for q3? or am i better to use one of the nte103's there?

sorry, i did do a search...there's like 26 pages just of POSTS on this, and the more i read, the more lost i'm becomming!! lol

as always...thanks in advance

I couldn't have said it any better...part of the fun of DIY is trying EVERYTHING and hearing what you like best.

For my ears, I'd probably go with the pure ge trio

gonna do just that...drew up a layout i'm gonna try and build tomorrow, with trim pots for each transistor...hopefully that will make it easier to get it workin'!!!
;)

i would do the pure ge trio, but i just realized i'm down to two ge's!! lol....and i gotta work with what i got right now, too broke to go buy more at the moment.
so i guess i'm gonna have me some fun, and gonna socket the transistors and as many components as i can so i can play with it later.

here's the layout i drew up...gonna start playing with the circuit tomorrow...

it's kinda a mutilation of a tonebender, i screwed up earlier and referred to it as a toneblaster, so now i guess this particular deviation will be the toneblaster!! lol

Are you trying to get asymmetrical clipping with the diodes?

You'd need to put them in series!

gotta get  a couple more pots tomorrow, and some hook up wire so i can finish it up.

so far...so good..knock on wood!
