Title: Rangemaster tranny gain question.
Post by: superferrite on May 04, 2011, 01:18:47 AM
Morning, all!

I found a couple of NPN Ge transistors in the parts bin that seem to have a hFE of between 40 and 60.  Is this too low for a rangemaster-type boost?    I want it as a first stage to kick my modded Colorsound One Knob fuzz into tonebender land.

Works GREAT with my stand-alone PNP rangemaster, but I want to power them both from my power supply and save real estate by boxing them together.

personally, i don't like RMs with under 70 hfe , but other people have reported liking low gain trans for these.

I believe 70-100 is the accepted "magic" range.

Once again, geofex has a great article. They recommend 75-100 hfe
