Title: Anyone make a Phonograph Simulator?
Post by: ThunderShowers on July 03, 2011, 04:20:45 PM
This  (http://www.hexeguitar.com/pedals-mel_e)is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm looking to build my own for fun.
It seems like it's a Vibrato and an EQ, I can grasp that, but the noise is, what, just making the LFO bleed through? and how would one get the Craking, Popping noise?

I've got more of a grasp on Vacuum Tubes then anything resembling this, unfortunately.

For the pops, I would use a random LFO (http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/lfos/psuedorandom.htm#Pseudorandom%20LFO) driving a comparator, then a monostable multivibrator, then some filtering. You might be able to get rid of some of that, but there's the general idea.

The noise is probably a white noise generator with some filtering.

I would start by checking this http://geofex.com/FX_images/lofi.gif

Adding something like thishttp://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth_new/NOISECORNREV01/NOISECORNREV01.php (http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth_new/NOISECORNREV01/NOISECORNREV01.php)

to the lofi will get you closer too.  No LFO though.

I built the LOFI but didn't care for the panner part.  Search for Mark Hammer's mods to the LOFI too.  He has some great suggestions for improving the filter.  I tried it on the breadboard and thought his ideas were great.  I'm trying to change the panner to a mixer with the signal at unity and the noise mixed at variable levels, but I'm not there yet.
