Title: dynacomp mod
Post by: bsmcc2010 on August 25, 2011, 06:54:02 AM
Hey guys,

So i had this idea of building a dynacomp like compressor but adding in a tone and clean blend controls. I'd make the tone circuit switchable so i could take it out of the signal path all together if i wanted.

I've found schematics for the general dynacomp and for the tone and blend circuits i'd build, but the only thing is where to put them in the overall circuit. They need to go inbetween the sustain and level controls of the dynacomp circuit, but the trouble is i'm not sure where the sustain control ends and the level control begins. If i knew this i could easily place the tone and blend circuits before the level control.

Here is a wiring diagram of the dynacomp and a schematic. If anyone can tell me where to put my added circuits that would be amazing!

Determine whether the load of the TC would require an impedance 'rework...
The TC could be placed as replacment for the 10k, just before the volume pot.

Thanks petemoore.

So are you suggesting just replacing the 10k with the tone pot and no other circuitry?

If i did that would i also put my blend pot between the tone and volume pots?

I am going to do the same thing as you!

I want to use the second TC in this link (the one he suggests best for compressors):
http://www.muzique.com/lab/swtc.htm

and put it in the design for the DynaComp with Jangle Switch and Blend Knob here:

From what I can tell, you can just put the TC in line with C23 and the Volume Pot. Does this make sense? I've yet to build and verify these mods together.

I have old eh black finger (741/3080) version and it has big muff tone control at the end, bit noisy and distorts but used to like the tone

thanks guitylerham.

so are the red squares on this board where you cut the hole out? and is it just a plain pcb with holes punched in it?

Also, i can't seem to see a switch on there? i'd want a 3pdt switch with LED

its vero board/strip board...its copper clad in strips with holes drilled already, red markers are for the cuts ..

you will be able to add a 3pdt with led too ok...... ;)

Thats really annoying...that was by far the best and easiest schematic/wiring diagram i'd found. All i needed to do was add the tone control and the 3pdt switch into it, which isn't hard! :(

that's not it  :-\

that looks like just a jangle box to me

I think you might mean this one ?

That's exactly the on! only that is the un-verified version...looks the same to me though

thanks!

ah man, just realised that that's not the same as the verified one...which music mean that it doesn't work? :S

Ah! Forgot about this thread! I'm away from home at the moment but I'll be sure to upload the layout from my original post. I just happened to save it to my computer before it was removed!! give me a day or two, promise!

Ok guys, sorry I've been away so long. Here is the original DynaComp link I posted with the jangle switch and blend knob. It appears to be verified.
