Title: electra distortion and bazz fuss v1 fusion?
Post by: jogina111 on September 30, 2012, 09:37:18 AM
is there a way to put these two pedal on the same pcb? I tried to use these two and I liked how it sounds. Close to metal sound...I dont know which parts should be ommitted or added...and where these two intersect...please help me..

Do you get different sounds depending on which order you wire them up?  If so, would you like to be able to swap the order?

In that case, I'd just make a PCB with both circuits exactly as published, side by side.  I'd use a jumper to connect the output from the electra to the input of the bazz fuss... juuuuust in case you want to install 2 stomp switches, so you can have one or the other or both on at the same time.

can I power it with just 1 battery? Or I still need 1 for each even if the two circuits are combined?

i apologize in advance if you already know all this , but i will share a few tips that i figure may be of use to a beginner , which i am still one myself , but i hada LOT of  time to read a bit , so ...

1 battery will work fine , look into using a stereo jack for the input , so when u unplug the cable the battery shuts off . i would add a dc input jack , just in case u want to use an adapter , but ... i try and avoid batteries, even in low drain devices .

the bazz fuss can use a darlington , which MAY produce the same high gain effect as the electra pluss a bazz , or if you need more ... try the darlington or roll your own . run off groove has the info on darlington bazz .

other mods would be having two different value capacitors on the input , put those on a switch and label it " bright " for more /less treble .

if you add an led , use a 1k or so resistor or the led will blow up .

for adding led u need to use a 3pdt switch , for no led , use a 2pdt switch,  its a bit cheaper .

beavis audio has nice pdf on how to wire it up to a switch / everything else

if you are going to put in in a box , plastic MAY be more susceptible to interference noise , metal is best . the thing is , this will be a high gain device , those tend to be noisy so shielding is a good idea . unless you are in a noise band or are going for a sid vicious tone .

i have a bazz based mess on a bread board that i need to finish and box up . its an lp-1 , 3 bazz fuss stages , 2 have silicone , then one has a germanium transistor . i used these capacitors i got out of a vcr , it has a gus smalley npn bost on the back end . i tried tons of different parts substitutions and found this combo that i really like . the " secret"or mojo seemed to be using all poly film old vcr caps , then one lil brown ceramic , also the diode combo .

i think i may add some simple tone control , then box it up . thanks for reminding me . i am HOPING it isnt noisy , from what i remember it was just fantasic , blooming , tons of sustain , really unique . i am gonna get going on it tonight :)

good luck !

Sid Vicious played a fender pbass...white with black pick guard just like his hero DeeDee Ramone...when he was too wasted (usually?) the sound guy would turn it way down in the mix so it couldn't be heard...supposedly at certain times they would have someone off to the side ACTUALLY playing the bass lines.....anyways he never used any effects that would cause him to feed back. So yeah you get to punch me one time i the arm for harping on details.  :P
