Title: How to install a 3PDT switch in a Boss pedal (HM-2)?
Post by: starbreaker on October 05, 2012, 06:47:38 AM
Hi, I'm new here, so I don't know if this is the right section of the forum.

Anyway, I want to install a 3PDT switch in a Boss Heavy Metal HM-2 pedal. I've never done anything like this and I don't have any idea which wire goes where. I opened the pedal and there are only two wires going to the switch, but the 3PDT switch has 9 soldering points, so I assume some other wires have to go there as well.

BOSS and Ibanez pedals, among many others, use electronic switching. If you check out "The Technology of The Tube Screamer" at GEOFEX, there is a complete explanation of how this works.

It is possible to convert FET electronic switching to 3PDT mechanical bypass, but it isn't simple. A technically simpler solution is to build a "true bypass box" that routes the guitar through or around the pedal. Other people here will probably suggest links to articles about this, and you are welcome to shop at my store for the parts.
