I have a flanger PCB that I am installing in a fairly large enclosure and have the option of drilling it so that input and output jacks' ground wires are fairly short and the jacks' signal wires to the footswitch PCB are longer, OR I can do the reverse: short signal wires, and longer ground wires. My gut tells me that, to whatever degree it makes a difference, the shorter signal wire is the best way to go... correct?

The best way to go is shielded cable, optionally with separate wire for ground and shield (semi-symmetric).

Good point and, actually, that is what I am planning to do. Just trying to see if it is better to go with a long ground wire or a long signal wire.
