Low current regulator.

Been using an LM317 as a current regulator.

Problem is the datasheet doesn't recommend going below 10mA, that is, a 120R resistor over the 1.2 V reference voltage. I did go up to 180R and the regulation does get a bit wrong, I think because of the unit's necessary quiescent current

Does anyone know a component that can regulate current down to lower mA?

The LM9036 looks good. It mentions ground current in uA and looks like it can supply as low as 100 uA. Decent voltage handling too. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I wonder if it's stable as a current reg. Low dropout devices have that weird ESR cap thing. Also seems to be surface mount only.

I'm being really dumb. The lm317L (the 100mA version) has about a 1.5mA minimum current.

Should have been the first place I looked  :icon_redface:
