Inverted Enclosure Etching?

I have been looking around for this and haven't found anything, but was wondering if it was possible to have a painted enclosure in which you etch off the paint where you want your graphics so that the lettering and graphics would be the raw metal.  The problem I am encountering is a resist that is resistant to paint thinner or acetone or whatever will remove a powder coat, but comes off by other means.

paint will act as a resist...so no it won't work that way..

you will need to do a 'reverse etch'...

use the usual toner for your graphics/text...then etch the face of it, then paint, then with a block and fine paper sand the 'raised parts'...making sure its flat....go easy.

or you can pick out the details with a small blade..

but make sure your box is sanded flat in the first place....very important for it to work.

Etch is kind of the wrong wording.  What I am asking is, is there a resist that can resist typical chemicals that break down or remove paint.  Obviously paint thinner or similar caustic substances will remove paint I am asking if there is a resist of some sort that could resist a paint remover.
