BYOC Classic Compressor Help

I just finished building the Ross clone and noticed a couple issues. This may be normal for the pedal, but there is a loud pop when the switch is engaged and the volume actually cuts out when turned down. To get equal volume as the bypass signal, the volume know has to be around 12 o'clock. Are these things normal?

I'm certain you can get rid of the pop issue with a resistor to ground after the input cap.
Theres some really good articles on led and popping by R.G Keen on the web.
Google is your friend.
I'd read them before taking my word for it though as im a rookie still making stupid mistakes. Take it with a pinch of salt.
