Maestro MFZ-1 vs. MFZT-1

So I'm currently borrowing a Maestro MFZT-1 Fuzztain and I absolutely love it on bass but I'm going to have to give it back sometime.

Has anybody ever a/b'd the Fuzztain vs. the same era Fuzz?  Do I really need to build all of the compressor part, or will just building the Hidrosis (updated MFZ-1) get me close enough for rock and roll?

I think this depends on which setting you like on the Fuzztain for Bass...  I know there's some CMOS chip involved for at least one of the modes. Will have to check the schem.

they are quite different circuits.

As you can see, the sustain involves filtering and feedback control around an op-amp. I've never heard one, so I can't comment on the tone.

I like the MFZ-1 a lot. You can hear it on the early Black Keys albums (e.g. Thickfreakness). The Hidrosis makes some worthwhile improvements while keeling the great fuzzy tone.
