hey all,
I am building the Tube Driver at general Guitar gadgets and it calls for a 10 ohm 1 watt resistor. Does it matter if I use a metal Oxide resistor in stead of a carbon film??

Thanks
Mike

in most cases, metal=better, but don`t they mention on that page, which to use ?  :?:

(btw., dunno whatfor this one is...)

No it is not mentioned what type to use. the 10 ohm 1 watt resistor is connected to the +12.6 volt transformer that I have in it. Well it is not connected yet but it will be. I can't get a carbon film 10 ohm 1 watt at the local RS but they do have a metal oxide. I just wanted to make sure it would be funky in the circuit.

Thanks a bunch,

Metal oxide is reputed to be a less than perfect sounding resistor technology in tube amps, but they are still used in some amazing sounding amps. I use them and like the results. They also have the advantage of being flameproof. This all matters much less when you're not using high voltages, but anyway, that's the tube world take.

If you want to be really picky about types, get a wirewound resistor instead. You'll probably need to get 5 or 10W. Anything larger than 1 is fine.

Bottom line, any 10 ohm 1W will work just fine. :)
