i am curious if any of the wise consumers here would know of a supplier who sells decent quality 90 degree 1/4 inch male connecters for a decent price .

i found some that were affordable but was not impressed with their quality , i believe these were from tayda or futurelec .
im learning , we'll thats what i keep telling myself

I use these: http://tiptopelectronics.com/home.asp?ProdDetail=24-610-0 (not where I got them).  They are a Switchcraft 228 clone and they seem quite good to me.  They are a bit on the wide side but flatter than others.  Not exactly pretty either but cheap.  They are made/imported by Mode Electronics in Canada (part# 24-610), but I expect they are probably available from a lot of places.

Now you've got me second guessing myself.  They seemed pretty solid to me, but I'm only using them for pedals.  I'll give them a closer look this weekend (I am planning to make up a few more cables).

I've used the same ones as Gord linked, not too bad, have to watch for a poor physical connection between the shaft and body, using a bit of flux really helps in soldering a lead to the body. By all means avoid the Tayda 90° version, again poor physical connection between shaft and body but worse still, the melting point of the plastic insulator is slightly below that of Jello.

Yeah, thats annoying as hell.
Until I changed to a larger tip on my iron.

I've got a bunch of those, although I got them from Ratshack.
I melted a few.
They can still be used (how reliably I dunno).
Just use the largest tip you have and solder the center tab to the pin.

Also, I don't solder the braid to the case.
I just fold it back over (1/8 or 1/4 inch?) the cable and screw that sucker together.

Deception does not exist in real life, it is only a figment of perception.

Up until a year or so ago Jaycar used to sell excellent RA 1/4" plugs - they had fibreglass inserts.  Now the inserts are made of nylon and I find I cannot solder them without the tip coming loose.

If anyone is interested in the flat pancake type plugs, Lave has had Switchcraft make an improved version of the standard 228 plug, with two contacts (no soldering to the case for the ground connection), an improved one-piece tip and shaft, and a mylar insulator that folds down over the connections:

They are a bit expensive, but I would think much easier to solder than the stock Switchcraft part.  They give discounts on quantity buys, though.  And, you might get them cheaper from a Lava dealer.  Also, they are made in the U.S.

Thought I'd just pass it on, I know many people are looking for the cheapest option, but I think these are pretty cool if you need that type of plug.
