Hi there,

I'd like to be able to separate the battery in my enclosure from my circuit so as not to disturb the circuit when changing batteries.

I was thinking about putting a plastic enclosure WITHIN my aluminium enclosure for the circuit be in, thereby leaving the battery separate, but I wondered if anyone had any other solutions to this?

Also does anyone know if you can get battery clips (9V PP3) that will fix direct onto a PCB board?

Thanks

davent

Couple things i've done,  JB Weld a small piece of angled aluminum to the enclosure to make a small compartment.

Cut a battery sleeve from an old bike inner tube and use heavy duty velcro on the sleeve and enclosure to hold the battery to the enclosure.

There are also many drop-in plastic battery compartments available that you can hard wire to the PCB. As long as you are semi handy with a dremel, it is not hard to install into the enclosure.

Thanks for replies. Will check out drop-in battery enclosures.

davent, do you have any pictures of the solution you described?

Thanks

You Can do this the way manufacturers do!

Possible solutions:

This enclosure:

has a separate compartment for the battery. The snap is hard-wired to any standard DC power jack, and power to the board is handled through a Molex header and plug:

Or you can use a battery drawer with one of the larger enclosures:

The usual question with those is: How do I cut that awfully big opening? It can be done with a Dremel tool and a cutoff wheel (WEAR GOGGLES AND A FACE MASK!) but it is a PITA. If you want someone to do it for you, accurately, pedalpartsplus has CNC gear and patterns. They will also powder coat.

More often then not i just trap the battery behind the footswitch or a standoff mounted pcb maybe with a bit of dense foam weatherstripping to create a snug fit.

artifus

i'd just position my switch so it holds the battery snugly against the inside of the case.

If you are using a 1590b box and install the 3PDT swwich centred on 33 mm from the lower side of the top of the box the battery wedges in the space below the battery quite snugly. A battery clip with the wires on the side of the connectors is needed.

Thanks to everyone for their ideas. Thanks davent for posting the photos and smallbear for the links.

Now just a case of working out which solution to use...

Thanks again guys.
