So I built my first pedal (a sort of fuzzy distortion pedal), and I loved the whole process and I love the unique sound I get out of it. I enjoyed the process so much, in fact, that I want to build another pedal, but it seems like most beginner builds are distortion pedals of one sort or another. Since I just built one that I am very happy with, I would rather build a different type of effect, but I don't know what would be challenging and what wouldn't be. Any recommendations?

If at first you don't succeed... use bigger transistors!

A simple tremolo like the Tiny Trem? Or a simple chorus like the One Chip Chorus? Both have very small component counts and give you a taster of signal modulation, not just signal distortion
Piss poor playing is why i make pedals.

Do you have a link George? I've never built a chorus or term thanks

How about a jfet booster pedal? I built one just because it was easy, now I wouldn't live without it. I even built another and stuck it inside my guitar. The first is in a stompbox and lives at the end of my chain, I punch it when doing lead licks or solos, gives a nice fat boost that drives the amps tubes just that bit further into distortion. The one inside the guitar drives my other effects to bring out the full goodness.

I play a strat and built the 'stratoblaster' booster. Used it on an SG and it rocked there too. The LPB is another alternative.

However, having said that, my first build was the Little Angel Chorus (Rick is a genius) and that sounds great. It's just a fair amount of parts so I was reluctant to suggest it as a novice build.

I think I am going to give a trem a shot. After looking at the Tiny Trem, I might give making my own from scratch a shot. I have an idea of what to do, but who knows how that will turn out.
