OP07CN vs OP07DP

Honestly, I've searched datasheets, and I can't find the info I'm looking for.

I got a bunch of scrap boards from work, and they have a ton of socketed OP07CN chips (I think the manufacturer is Analog Devices - AD on the chip). I've read that the newer RATs are using OP07DP in place of LM308. I'd like to know how the CN configuration is different than the DP. But the datasheet just identifies the sections that have been updated from Rev 0, A, B, C...

Thanks for any info or suggestions.

Well they are compared side by side in the "electrical characteristics" table in the TI datasheet titled:
"OP07C, OP07D, OP07Y PRECISION OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIERS"

Must have been one of those "tricky" ones that doesn't jump out at you huh... :icon_cool:

Thanks, you're right.. this TI datasheet has C, D and E described. C&D look pretty similar.

Any idea what the second letter stands for (N vs P)?

I believe both N and P refer to the plastic DIP package.  Not sure of any difference other than manufacturer's convention.

TI has been changing the suffixes on National Semiconductor parts (TI bought NS's business a few years back).

TI ate Analog Devices a few years before that, and I guess they did the same thing to unify the catalog numbers.

I think N is old-suffix and P is new-suffix. In particular "P" seems to be TI's suffix for Plastic DIP (what NS used to call "N").

This page has all the currently-orderable parts: http://www.ti.com/product/op07d#samplebuy

No "CN". "DP" is a P-DIP.

It appears that C and D were selection specs. C had *slightly* better specs. Nothing which would make the least difference in general audio. While hot-stuff in its day, OP-07 is no longer leading-edge technology, so I guess TI isn't bothering to sort-out the top 5% parts under a different grade. (Odds are that "most" OP-07 beat the specs by a large margin, just due to improved cooking.)

Coming from a '308.... ALL the OP-07 grades are "much too good". Obviously RAT doesn't mind. Use them.
