Engl mod3 question...

On the engl mod 3 over at gtlab, there are 4148 diodes from gate to drain on the all the mosfets.
Are they adding additional clipping?

I ask because I built one and its a little farty for my taste. A little shrill, but not bad otherwise.
One thing it doesn't seem to do is add the compression a savage emulation has which is a little more
than a diezel emulation on the GNX3k.
