Hi

Im putting together an order to Musikding, germany. First time i order from them.

As part of my order i need a few values of resistors. To my surprise they dont carry 1/4W resistors, but 0.6W metal film. Simple question: These 0.6watters, are they "too big" to fit our common PCBs or do they just fall into place? (to be overclear: by "common pcb" i mean just like anything from madbean, GGG or similar).

Cheers
Bengt

if they are .6? which is odd I thought it was just 1/4 and 1/2 W and up. They will work but that would probably make them 1/2 watt which are bigger and wont lay flat in most designs but you sould be able to fit them. I accidently ordered a value of 1W resistors from tayda and was pissed but it worked fine, if the resistors are really close side by side you might have to angle them a bit.

I would imagine those are really 1/4 watt but if they are 1/2 you will more than likely be fine with a bit of MINOR finnagling

Edit:

Looks like they are Type 0207 which comes in .4w and .6w sizes
http://www.vishay.com/docs/28766/28766.pdf

so they do indeed appear to be a little larger than the typical ones.

Thanx for helping clearing that out. Yep, they are indeed larger. They will not fit.

They should fit the Madbean PCB's just finished populating the boards with those resistors.

0.6W resistors are not necessarily as bulky, as one might assume. At least not the 1% ones, that I have ordered, and used frequently.

Physical dimensions: length of the resistor element without the leads = ~6mm, diameter ~2.3mm.

Of course there may be variations between manufacturers, etc.

Hm and hm... I might did read that datasheet too fast. Now i had to grab my callipers and measure a "common blue" 1/4W +/-1% metal film resistor. And it actually measures ~6*2.3mm. When you line up a 1/4W and a 0.6W next to eachother, do you see (or rather feel) that small difference in size?

No they will.

they just might not lay flat.

if you have say 3 resistors side by side and they are a little too wide then just alternate them standing up.

instead of

-oooo-
-oooo-
-oooo-

do

O----

I read you:) ... you are right, i'm convinced. So, now i am right too!

Thanx guys. Great help.
