Some Pete Cornish thing?

Lol, yep, was thinking along the same lines.  I was already googling Cornish earlier to see what's out there...

TS & Klon seem awfully close in concept. I'd have one mid-booster (Klon or TS, pick your poison), one flatter type with TB tone controls, like a Timmy, Zen or Tube Driver, and one thick & chewy, like maybe a Rat or a BSIAB. Lotsa stacking possibilities there.

Hmmm, this sounds really good actually.  Klon -> Timmy -> Rat would cover a heck of a lot of ground.

Are there any popular boutiquified Rats out there?  Maybe FKR?

I know you've already given some thought to order, but keep doing so. I had a cover gig not long ago in which I needed something higher gain than I usually have onboard for some Neal Schonish stuff, so I stuck a Fender Starcaster (Boss MT-2 clone) on the board. When even that turned out to be not quite "it", I tried boosting the input of the Starcaster with an SD-1, as I had happily done to lower gain overdrives like an OCD, but that had virtually no effect. When I switched them, however, the SD-1 gave the Starcaster a nice, focused lead boost that cut through the mix instantly. With a Rat, in my experience both ways work, but the effect is different. YMMV.

I think I probably won't avoid building a crap load of these individually first to play with sounds and order before I commit them to a 1590DD build.

So far my build list looks like this:
Klon
Timmy
Zen
CJOD
Rat
Morning Glory
Percolator
Sparkle Drive

I already have half of those built, so I'm well on my way ;)

Why not use switches jacks to be able to change the order of the effects?

How about a CMOS or transistor over drive? Nicolas Collins CMOS thing or a Colorsound Overdriver?

Here's one based on the Wasp, via Ken Stone:

Obviously need to breadboard that, work out the single sided-ness, and decide if you want the filter or not (you do, don't you?! ;D), but you'd be the coolest kid on the block with a Wasp distortion stompbox.
