Boss FZ-2 Schematic

This schematic has been floating around the net for a few years:

I've searched but it doesn't seem anyone has verified if it is correct. The schematic is confusing me for a number of reasons.

1) The transistors indicated on the right don't match up with what is shown in the schematic.
2) The phase splitter has two separate value resistors on each phase, making me question the validity of all the resistor values
3) I don't follow what is going on in the gain section
4) The gain stage gives me no change in gain when I breadboard it

I know this is a univox superfuzz variant, but I'd like to understand a bit better how this works. I appreciate any help.

Question Number 13 looks very similar to the gain section of this schematic. Why would boss implement such a complex gain section?
