DC adapter question

So I bought a few DC plugs from the local shop to put in my EHX pedals, to replace the silly small ones they use. I can't seem to get it to work though, I have installed plenty of other DC plugs but when I have this one plugged in it shuts off all the other pedals on my board. I tried switching around the lead/battery clip wires with the same result. I am not sure if I am just being daft, or this plug simply won't work in a pedal.

The only description the manufacturer gives is:
DC POWER JACK
Valox Material 250°C
2A @ 16VDC Max

I had ground wired to 1, lead to 2 and battery to 3, and then I switched them. If anyone has any input that would be great.

Maybe a little of both!  ;D
We all have our moments!

This jack will not work!
You need a jack that's isolated from the enclosure just like the silly small one's you took out!

You are shorting the +voltage to the enclosure.

Check continuity from the outer sleeve to the pins, you'll get the idea.
I just designed a new fuzz circuit! It almost sounds a little different than the last fifty fuzz circuits I designed! ;)

Hahaha, I seem to have a lot of them.  :icon_lol:

Alright, thanks for the reply Larry. Saves me the trouble of messing around with it anymore. I'll go back tomorrow and see if they have an isolated one. I think I recall seeing some in the same size that were isolated, but they only had 2 terminals.

I did the same thing a long time ago!

I wanted to replace the stupid plastic jack with a nice machined metal one.....I want all of my stuff to be good quality!

Uhh...I could not figure out why it wouldn't work!  ???

Got it figured out! The plugs I got only have +/- terminals, so I ended up taking the battery clips out of the 2 I modified, but that doesn't really bug me too much considering battery power was what I was trying to avoid in the first place.

Thanks for the help, Larry.

Can't he just isolate the metal jack from the enclosure using a plastic washer (similar to the ones that come with stomp switches these days)?.
Al

induction

That would take care of the inner and outer surfaces, but you could still get contact between the threads and the edge of the hole. You could use an isolation washer like on a heat sink, if you can find the right size.

I was planning on using this type for a non battery box. Does hooking up 1 to ground and 2 to positive work with a centre negative adapter?

Yup, worked fine in my builds.

I had made this switched DC power jack with a metal bushing and shoulder washers that insulates it from a chassis:

There are also several choices of all-plastic types in this section of my Stock List:

Excellent, I will have to order some for my next build.
