470K is used on all actual units I've seen pics of, I think the patent schematic is wrong.

Temperature affects Germanium transistors, that's just a fact of life, changing resistor values will not alter this.
But I don't agree that you need leakage from the resistors for this circuit to work - the 2N270s I used had zero leakage, and it sounds great with the stock values from the corrected schematic.

If your transistors are oscillating they might be too high gain - if it's only when the fuzz/attack pot is on full, I wouldn't worry too much about it if you like the sound at lower levels.
