when pink jimi suddenly realizes there is ZERO difference between a tonebender mk 1.5 and a fuzzface...

Call yourself a Fuzz munger??????

Your drooling in the picture Jimi. They must have put a fuzz infront of you for the pic:)
Ma throats as dry as an overcooked kipper.

Smoke me a Kipper. I'll be back for breakfast.

.... And a Vox distortion booster. Which I have heard pre-dates them both (not sure how true that is).

that moment when you realize 90% of fuzzes out there are modded fuzz face...

FTFY. The 1.5 came first.

Jimi, they are different despite being the same circuit (so of course you can build them on the same layout). The biasing is different - note the collector resistor on Q1 and the smaller negative feedback resistor -- and the input cap is far, far smaller.

EDIT: Maybe I'm an idiot. I could be talking about the Vox tonebender. Too lazy to google schems.

Yeah ! and a Marshall JTM45 is a Fender Bluesman. From the early days everyone copied each other and nothing has changed to this day then.  :icon_wink:

a fender bassman with double the midrange gain, and double the resistors to plate and cathode!! ;)

i'm talking about the sola tonebender mk1.5, as found on the DAM site.
the ONLY diff between the two circuits is the 22u cap on the "attack" (nee "fuzz) control.
the c resistors are the same. the e resistors are the same. the cap values, the pot values... the same.

throw in that one cap.... and that's about it!!  at least to the schems i've used... ;)

I can't quite put my finger on it, Jimi, but something about you has changed.  It's the shirt, right?   ;D

i thought the mk1.5 had a 5uf input cap?

Never seen one in the flesh, mind you.

pinkjimiphoton

it does in fact. like i say all the time...

bRaIn dEAd
i bet that's why it sounds the same as a fuzzface almost. i ooopsied again.

meant to put in 4.7u. closest value i have. i'll have a play with it and see if it makes much difference. thanks for the catch bro

this was what i was looking at, first from RG

then from DAM

when ya figure in the typical 80% tolerance on the caps... i mean... it's the same damn thing almost.

i realize this is no revelation... to anyone but ME. ;)

they are subtly different, but close enough for rock and roll for me.

Well, never mind jimi. I had that same experience lately, when I dug into some circuits
to get a nice (read mean) sound for doom/stoner tone. Everything seems to be either a muff or
a one knob fuzz. Maybe it's time to get some more into tone stacks to find a new twist...

pinkjimiphoton

play with diode clippers and circuit bends. you can find some cool stuff... you'd be surprised how much noise ya can get outta one transistor. ;)
