Buzzaround Positive to Negative Ground Conversion Question

Hey,

I'm working on a converting the following layout from positive to negative ground:

I've built the circuit and reversed the electrolytic caps and diode. I've socketed the transistors and have been swapping them around. The circuit works ok like this and gets a distorted tone, but it is quite weak. From what I understand the balance acts as the bias for Q3. Is there some other way of biasing this circuit, or is this a problem inherent in changing a positive ground circuit to negative ground?

Any suggestions would be helpful. Cheers!

Since it's a layout and not the actual schematic, can't tell ya how it works.   But, if the 'balance' biased it with a negative ground, then there has to be an equivalent for positive ground.    Look closely; if you've re-oriented things like transistors, the biasing will still occur on their collectors - if that makes sense.
You need a schematic to keep it all straight :o)

Thanks for the replies. That makes perfect sense, GibsonGM. Yeah, jrod, I forgot to mention that I'm now using NPN transistors. Looking at the layout I just spotted a really obvious error that I've made: Q2's collector skips a track but I socketed it in beside the base :icon_redface: Seems likely that would explain it's behaviour. I'll fix that and let you know how it goes.

Aaaaaaand...it works perfectly now! Spent a little time swapping around transistors and now I have a great sounding little fuzzbox! Thanks for your help!

Glad to hear it!!!  Just an interesting mental exercise, huh?
