Hi,

I've got some silicon/npn/metal can 2N929 transistors that I bought 2 years ago, and that I really like the sound of.
I'd like to buy some more of them, but my supplier has ran out of them...

There's no company name printed on the transistor, but apart from "2N929" it also says "M348".

Anyone that know what transistor this might be?

If you go to nteinc.com you can perform a search for an equivalent made by NTE.

in your case it would be a NTE123A.  this might be easier to find than the original one....

cheers

Thanks for your replies  :)

(First I must admit that I, apart from the Hfe, really don't understand WHAT to look for - or what is of importance sonically - in data sheets like these  ??? )

I've been looking at a cross reference list over at:
http://alltransistors.com/crsearch.php?mat=Si&struct=NPN&pc=0.3&ucb=45&uce=45&ueb=5&ic=0.05&tj=200&ft=30&cc=6&hfe=40&caps=TO18

and they list 44 alternatives...

Looking at the 2N929: http://alltransistors.com/transistor.php?transistor=6434 and comparing this to the
TI474: http://alltransistors.com/transistor.php?transistor=46729 they seem to be identical.

What seems to be different about the 2N929 from most of the other transistors is the "Transition frequency", which is 30MHz with the 2N929 but much higher (up to 600MHz) with most of the others.
Is THIS of any importance when using a transistor in a Fuzz?

If someone could explain WHAT is of importance, sound wise, in datasheets like this, it would be much appreciated!
