whilst most people would start with "I know this is an old thread, but .....", I'm not most people.

so, I was looking at my local copy of this page today, and noticed that in your last-drawn circuit, pjp, you have connected C2, the troublesome 220nF, to the bypass line instead of ground, at that end. the vero and perf are both connecting correctly.

aha!! you are right.... scratched my head a couple minutes, going....what?

but sure enough... i thought that was a ground plane, not the bypass line... my bad.... so hopefully peeps will read the thread first!!

It was Arsenio Novo who posted this circuit long, long ago.
It's a kind of Bazz Fuss, with the PNP acting as the diode.
I experimented with it and found that you can have 8-up sounds at some point of the 50k bias pot.

The tuning condition for Overdrive is Vc = Vb,
