Hello everyone :) I'm new to the diy stuff , and i'm really enjoying this . I have built several simple circuits , but all i know is that this is the diode and that's the resistor ... you know , general stuff . I realy want to get into this schematics and circuits and understand the basics of what each part does in the circuit . I DONT want articles about recognizing the parts , like "what is a pot" etc . I just want to know the basics of the circuits , what this part does and what that does .

I have tried to read many articles but they either talk about general stuff , like this one http://www.geofex.com/effxfaq/fxfaq.htm , or they are just too advanced , like this one http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/fuzzface/fftech.htm . I want to know what a capacitor does after the transistor , what a resistor does when going to ground etc etc ... Anyone can help me with a good Book or article ?

Beavis audio helped me too. The technology of fuzz face, tube screamer, etc

I don't know of any one book that teaches electronics from a perspective of how effects work. I do have several books that cover electronics theory, and some include a lot of "hands-on" demos:

On beavisaudio and geofex there are articles called 'what do all of those parts do' and 'how it works'          those were the first articles beyond supernewb that explained some basic idioms. I'm still ignorant of a lot, but here are two tips to take you somewhere

1. Read geofex.com and musique.com everyday. Find articles that you can wrap your head around, and knock one or two out a day. I constantly reread articles and 'get' them more each time.

2) anytime you hear a term alot that you don't get, google/wiki it. Don't get the explanation? Google all of those words too :)

You need to focus on broader category first. Understanding what basic components do is best taught in theory books about analog electronics. Books about applying all that stuff to narrower fields (e.g. building audio effects) don't usually bother to discuss theory in extreme detal. They already assume you know what most basic circuits and components within the circuit do.

A generic analog electronic book usually discusses: components and basic principles like Ohm's law and current laws, RC and LC circuits and filters in general, semiconductors: diodes, transistors, FETS, opamps and all their usual configurations, rectifying, diode limiting, regulation, triacs, diacs, constant current sources, multiple-stage amplifiers, power amplifiers, heatsinking, feedback, oscillators, comparators and tone control filters and EQs, even printed board circuit design principles.

Maybe not in super extensive detail but usually in a manner that walks you through 90% of circuits out there. Once you understand the function you understand it's the same function everywhere. A RC circuit is a RC circuit whether it's in a guitar effect, computer or a control panel of an airplane. The basic functions never change. Learn them and you are soooo much closer to figuring out te more detailed or cunning circuitry.

It's usually pretty difficult to find a guitar effect which's operation would not be covered by theory discussed in a decent book about analog electronics.

I liked the one that discussed stuff like how to protect circuits from static and such. That's usually the kind of information that you will not find from basic 101 analog electronics theory books.
