That's an amazing improvement - what did you use to get such a good result?

I vectorized it with Inkscape.

Here's the latest version with the following changes;

Panel now done in Gill Sans
Pot mounted with two screws rather than a nut
Casing sprayed with Hammerite
Trim applied

Still needs a little work, but it's getting there........

Looks awesome! Where did you find that exact knob for the pot, if I may ask?
I made a hammond-boxed RM myself, and used a combination of Arial and Century Gothic to come as close as possible to Gill Sans. Looked pretty neat too.
Meanwhile @ TGP:

The knob started out as a 15mm standard knob from Rapid;

I mounted it on a piece of 6mm rod and 'machined' it in the lathe with a file to get the shape, then finished it with 600 then 1000 grit wet-or-dry paper. I then cut the slot in the end with a small slitting saw. Worked out quite well in the end and only took a few minutes.

I realize this is an old post.  So...not expecting a response.  Hoping the OP is still alive, well and making great effects!!

I am making a RM clone and this one is absolutely the best I have seen other than originals.  I would like to know what you used for the edge trim on the front?  Also, did you use the same type of "plate" to cover the battery compartment as in the original RM?  Great job!!

Mick Bailey

The chrome trim strip came from a UK supplier and is identical to the original RM. They no longer list it on their site, but it may be worth a shot mailing them to see if they have any left. It's a rounded self-gripping channel section 5mmx4mm

I used the same arrangement as the original for the battery plate.

BTW,

Take a look at the top of this page (part no. 430) The strip was the smaller version of this -

I use a tabletop oven that I originally bought for stompbox use, as the main oven in the kitchen was always being used when I wanted to bake some paint or decals. Since then it's been hijacked for food use as well, so I guess I'm back to square one. It won't mess your oven up, but be sure there's no grease or bits in the oven that may contaminate your panel.

I made my own enclosure so that I could get the dimensions as close to the original as I could. I built a little folding machine a while back for bending up amp chassis and this came in handy, though I have previously just used wooden blocks in the vice and a hammer with good results. Unless you have reasonable sheet metal skills (or a good deal of patience) this can be frustrating.

The banzai site doesn't seem to give dimensions, but it doesn't look quite right. I scaled my own box up from photos and it came out as 95mm wide x 60mm high x 120mm deep. Now everyone with a Rangemaster will tell me that's completely wrong.....

Maplins do a box that's fairly close to these sizes and I would have probably used the AB24 http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1728 if making my own hadn't become an obsession.

I would recommend that you make the front panel separately in any case, using thin sheet metal. The control fixings will hold it in place. I think you could end up with a decent looking Rangemaster without going to too much trouble and without having to bend up your own.

BTW, if anyone is interested in the revised decal (now Gill Sans) I'm happy to upload it.

Hi there! Great rangemaster build! I understand that the topic is old, but i will give it a try.
I am going to build or order enclosure for the rangemaster, thanks for your post and some other info on the web i figured out the approximate external dimensions. But I still have 2 questions:

1) How is the "inner case" is mounted to the "outer" and what are the inner case dimensions? If you could post some pics this would be aweeesooome!
2) How thick should the aluminum be (my guess is around 2-2.5 mm)?

Many thanks in advance!
