9V Mains DC safety question

So I'm testing and debugging my builds with 9v batteries whilst still getting to grips with electronics and I'm discovering that low voltage/drained cells sometimes cause problems as they don't power certain effects, therefore leading me to chase non-existant problems in the circuit.

My question is this...
If I power my circuits with 9V DC power from the mains, am I at risk of shock / physical harm if I touch joints/metal or use an audio probe or multimeter in the wrong place?  Can shorting damage components etc?  OR will the boss adapter/wall wart/transformer just give a minor 9v tingle when touched?

Thanks! And sorry for the basic electronics question, but I'm still learning and really don't want to fry myself!

9V DC at the amperage delivered by a 9Vcell or wall wort is not dangerous.  I doubt you could even feel it.
I used to really be with it!  That is, until they changed what "it" is.  Now, I can't find it.  And, I'm scared!  --  Homer Simpson's dad

Thanks!  That's the answer I was hoping for :)

Avoid debugging with your tongue (it tingles), otherwise you're good to go.

Ohm's Law - much like Coles Law, but with less cabbage...

i shorted a 9v battery in my finger and it did burn pretty bad
no long term damage though... i think
;)

Use a supply *made for pedals*.

These are sure to be well insulated from the wall wiring.

Also they should be low-buzz, which is another thing you don't want to be debugging pointlessly.

It as already been said but do check the amperage. As RRR said stompbox power supplies do not have a lot of power but if you use a random 9v supply with a high amperage delivery it can be different. I don't have any values in mind though
Don't know what to do with a paritculare transistor? Check this website where stompbox pedals are listed by what transistors they use

the nice thing about wall-warts is that they are already CE/UL type-approved. No messing around with the mains supply!

i use my daisy chain 9v for my breadboarding all the time, no batteries, ..after all its what the pedal will be used with.

fried a few leds, and 10r resistors (they go well :icon_twisted:) ...but now i'm a bit more careful about releasing the magic smoke ;)
