2PDT with LED?

Hey everyone,

I have some 2PDT switches and I figured I'd try and use them for a screamer build. I can't find any good wiring layouts though for using a 2PDT with an LED. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks!

You could go to the original:

The short answer to your question is that no, there is no wiring diagram that will let you do true bypass with only a 2PDT. See
http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/bypass/bypass.htm
for the scoop. There is a fraction of one of the sections left over after true bypassing if you wire it just right. That is what the Millenium Bypass counts on to signal an LED circuit to switch. You can do some of the non-true bypasses (the Clinton Bypass is one of my favorites) with an LED depending on the input impedance of your effect circuit.

Am I really gaining anything by making it true bypass if the effect will never be switched off? I'm not sure it would make any difference.

Now I'm confused.  I do notice upon rereading that you did not say "bypass switch", so maybe I lept to that conclusion incorrectly. IS it for a bypass switch?

If the effect will never be switched off you don't need a switch at all. Just wire it to the input and output jacks. Hook the LED and a resistor between +9 and ground. If you're using the input buffer from the original screamer, you can get by with using the diagram titled "Tone sucking bypass with indicator" because the buffer on the stock screamer circuit is always in-circuit in a real screamer anyway, so it won't hurt more than that.

Like many things, this is a question of objectives - where are you trying to get?
