I also have a more rigid one with a footswitch, but this one is good for a healthy laugh when I take it out.

Works great!
Looks great! When breadboarding I find that my off board components, pots and jacks etc, keep getting pulled out. One reason I like the idea of putting it all in an enclosure.

Keep an eye out at yard sales for old crappy metal boxes (mine even had plenty of parts to scavenge ;D) and turn it into a project box.

My project box:

Looks like hell, but it works great.

^ neat..

yep everywhere i go i'm on the lookout for turning things into other stuff...its an obsession.. ;D

After seeing this post a while ago I decided to build my own pedal. Here's my attempt at a prototyping pedal. You can see a bit more about it here http://distofx.co.uk/wp/?p=14 . It's built using two 1590B style boxes screwed together. I wanted to keep the 'off board' components separate, that way you can tweak the components on the breadboard without having to move the pots or jacks. I spent a while trying to make it as flexible as possible. I put together some push on connectors so that the potentiometers can be changed without having to solder anything.

^ cool 8), smallbear was doing something similar but in 1 box

i like the 2 box idea, though i'd have to have a much bigger box for my proto's....

Nice one disto.

I have something similar, without the 'top' box. Have been meaning to add switchable input and output buffer, some voltage regulation, and a headphone out, etc.

Edit - Millenium bypass may not have been the best choice for a prototyping rig as your LED will be at the mercy of an output pulldown resistor.

I'm a refugee of the great dropbox purge of '17.
Project details (schematics, layouts, etc) are slowly being added here: http://samdump.wordpress.com

What about one of those Ali tool/flight cases. Probably not strong enough to take a stomp switch on top, but you could have a socket for switches in a normal diecast enclosure - use full modem cable with DB connectors for that. Some of those cases have lids on basic pin hinges that slip out so you can keep the lid out of the way if you want.

Originally I was going to use a single 1590BB so that I could fit a larger breadboard in but then the height of the box would have been an issue. What would have been really nice is if I could have used a 1590B for the bottom half and 1590BB with a larger breadboard in for the upper half. Sadly the length and width dont match up and so it would look a bit strange  :icon_cry:

Build An Idea Box, dang it!

The enclosure is a 1790NS. If you don't want to spend money for the pot bracket

http://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/five-pot-bracket/

make one. The idea is adaptable to fewer pots or a DD enclosure with some hacking.

I will post the How-To article again soon, but you clearly know enough to build from the pic, so go for it!

SD

You mean to live inside of it, and build pedals as a full time job......... right? :icon_biggrin:

Thanks SD, I started this a while ago (July/August time) and I spotted you started selling an Idea Box recently and thought darn he beat me to it   >:(

It's a neet idea, hats off to you... It's a shame posting enclosures to the UK costs so much. I noticed you updated the store recently and all the projects/article pages have gone, are they coming back?

1590DD   :icon_idea:

Thanks Rob I'll have to check out the dimensions

Here's what I did, cheap and works like a charm:

You Don't have to buy the whole thing! The only custom piece of it is the pot bracket--or "shelf" as some have called it. That's light and not expensive. It will fit in a 1590DD if you shave a little height off the side supports. Could be cobbled to fit a BB if you sacrifice holes. Use yer imagination!

Absolutely, though it will take awhile to rework the links.
