While I'm asking about the 1010 -

I've read on other forums that the expressions pedals use phototransistors (presumably old school control voltages). Some have attempted to replace these with expression pedals/pots (100k IIRC) and it seems like they're getting mixed results.

I am interested in chopping mine down a little bit - an insight on how to convert from the phototransistors to a conventional expression input jack? Could you not put 5v into a pedal and get a similar effect by using the pot to divide the voltage down?
