stupid simple version of a SHO, no knobs... no crackle, either. set the trimmer to whatever volume boost ya need, and let 'er rip.

if ya want a volume control, tack a 100k l pot on the output, standard volume control.

i don't need to do a schematic or stupid pedal trick for this one.

all props to zach, it's his circuit, not mine, just shining the guy's shoes a little.

you can build this point to point in a ridiculously small space. hell, on the back of a volume pot if ya want to... but here's a perf.

Why 1meg resistors instead of 10meg?

cuz they were handy. pretty much anything from about 470k to 20m seems to work.
just dicking around on the breadboard again.

pretty sure some bipolars may work in there with the 1m's, too. didn't try tho.

i needed a quick and easy boost stage for another project, so i whipped up a bunch of these on perf.
tried replacing the "crackle ok" pot with a 2.2k resistor, figuring it would sound close to the knob half way up, but i didn't like the sound there..
so i just grounded the damn thing.  so it's all the way up.

you can use the 5k trimmer to dial in the gain, no crackle necessary, or replace with a 5-10k pot if ya wanted to i guess.

what would the difference be in the sound with 10m, gus? just makes the impedance higher, doesn't it? or does it filter highs off at a higher frequency?
this thing seems plenty bright at 1m!!

Was a long time since I whipped up a layout for anything and this one seemed simple enough  

Added an extra/alnternate grounding pad.
Added an extra pad to exclude the trimpot (actually two pads so all resistors can have the same apparent length on your board, or you can match the length of the 400X diode).
Added extra pads for other types of trim pots.

This pcb is so small it'll fit on top of a pot with just a few millimeters worth of overhang sideways and a little more length wise.
