Yeah I'm not planning on doubling up on any more sample orders from any one company and besides, I have enough to work with now to hold me over for quite a while  :D

Try not to abuse the free system, it can be taken away as easily as it's given.

Just like Tayda's 15% coupon now dis-includes enclosures!  (I don't abuse that coupon though, because it's never active when I order).

you can choose up to five free chips of your choice.
How did you get free ICs?  Did you ask for these particular chips, or did they send you a complimentary variety pack?

Cool..i just picked 3886's,  nice amps..but.....

on checkout it says i 'may' be liable for cutoms duty on delivery as i am in the UK..

or may need an EORI number?...

anyone have this?..

Please Note: You may be required to pay country specific taxes and duties on receipt of shipment. If you reside within Europe, you may be required to provide the appropriate Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) or other form of personal identification to clear customs.

sod it, i just ordered....see what happens.  ::)

I live in the UK and had some  samples in the past couple of years, and not been charged anything.

DA, if they turn up at the door asking for moneys, you just say "no thanks, I can't accept" and they will leave you, free-ic-less.

I have a big list of supposedly free-samples links, if anyone wants. some companies (micro electronics) will send you a load, but want shipping costs covered.

"LM13700N/NOPB"

I've got circuits drawn all over the backs of the invoice (5 pages) for my samples, and I find I'm still reaching them for the part #'s about once a week.

Soooo...

I got some SMDs sent by accident. I'm new to all this and wanted some free gear to practice on, but I'm not even sure what to do with these things.

Can you get holders to use them in normal perf or stripboard projects or do you need to make your own boards or something?

I'm still wanting to make the b blender and I have some more ICs coming in the post but I'm getting impatient! Could someone enlighten me?

EDIT- I just read about 'turtling' where you superglue the chip to the board and use little wires to route where you want to go... Anyone done this?

Take a look at this page, there are some funny ways of converting between SMD, DIP, single and dual.

thats pretty nifty actually...

I've done that trick, soldering SOIC chips to DIP sockets, works well, wouldn't want to do it for things with more than eight pins though. Plenty of people on Ebay sell SMD to DIP converter PCBs, unless it's for chips you can't get in DIP it's not really worth the bother though.
