hi guys,
my eyes have gone pretty much south from the glaucoma, so i never built the boards for this thing, the original series of boards
i got when they were first burned... they waited a couple years. i looked at them recently and realized i'd never be able to populate and solder them correctly, some things are just too close, and if i take a hard look it makes my eyes just tear up. sux monkey nuts.

but never fear, i gotta brother from another mother up in canada, named DINO who is godlike in most ways, for an asian iceman and all.
dino had offered to build it for me if i sent him the parts, and he did so... and a bang up job of it. i did notice this one had the original glitch, the fuzz repeat/formant filter select switch is opposite from the layout in the build doc, which is no big deal, i just cleaned off tthe sharpy and re labeled it. this thing is INSANE.
yoy for days... hell, yoy for DECADES.
thank you dino, i will pay this forward again and again. it's so good i may sell off my original to pay off my GAS (over 40 guitars at the moment the collection has swelled to again, and i've given away like 12 guitars in the last 6 months or so) so if anyone is interested, pm me. otherwise, it's gonna hit the bay or reverb. i don't need the original, dino's clone does everything that did, and more. ;)

anyways... i opted to have dino mount a jack on mine for the exp pedal, and ordered a nice 10k pot joey gagan turned me on to from the bay... thanks joe!! that i was gonna mount in a crybaby shell to do the exp thing... and suddenly it occurred to me... wait a minute... 10k, but need a 5k sweep... wonder if....

my old ev5 pedal would work. it's a 10k pot, with a 50k pot to dial in the "min resistance" or whatever.... minimum volume, usually, so ya can say, swell between comping and solo volume.

it worked outta the gate, but was backwards... treble was to the heel, so i opened it up and saw i'd at ssome point reversed the input and wiper wires to the main pot (suddenly now i remember doing it, and it may explain why it didn't work right with my old fc100 foot controller for my gp8
:icon_redface: ) i put 'em back to where they should have been, and it still didn't work right.... sweep was better, but backwards.

so i reversed the three wires, and VIOLA as they say when they don't know how to say voila, that did the trick. sweep was perfect, and very organic. and the "trim" pot for min volume lets ya dial in the "range" of the sweep. you can make it so the yoy is at the toe down, or in the middle more... in other words, you can get the necessary sweep to recreate the ludwig's pedal (and the ev5 kinda "feels" more like the stock luddite) but you can extend the range slightly, and be able to sweep beyond the formants up to a very useable 60's kinda ed king with strawberry alarm clock kinda fuzztone. it's kinda hip. it almost gives the illusion of depth in a very 3-d manner. and you can tweak it live with no problem if need be.

so anyways... ev5's are cheap and ubiquitous, and appear to work well with this circuit if you're too lazy to adapt a crybaby, you may wanna give this a try and see if it works for ya. i realize it's cheating and all, but hey, with this, you can pick up a replacement almost anywhere if you lost or broke ((hah, "broke")) the crybaby shell.

all ya gotta do is reverse two wires. and being plastic, no ground loop issues or anything, either. i'd imagine a small dpdt switch added to the pedal would allow you to still use it stock, too.

anyways, i thought i'd share this info, and hope it makes some other hopelessly DIY addicted sucker out a little.

again, dino, thank you bro!!!!!!!!!

You're very welcome bro. Happy to see that it meets with your approval. I'm glad to see that my Luddy tuning ear is still intact.

Andy, thanks for the compliment. Means a lot to me, and right back at ya bro.

BTW.... where's my installment of SPT? :icon_biggrin:

i will do a SPT in the next couple of days bro...
right now i'm taking a little downtime, between the eyes and neck right now i'm a bit of a mess, and my work area is inundated with crap i'm trying to sort thru. so ..... soon!!!!!

extra kudos for the tuning... other than the fuzz working right, it sounds just like my original, which i guess can hit the block now. nice to  have, but the clone blows it away, and is a treasured item.

thanks again brother... awesome. ;)

ps... try the ev5 trick if ya have one kicking around, it's nice cuz ya can "dial in" the sweet spots on the wah ;)
