Boss GT-5 woes

For quite a while now, the display of  my processor (a 1998 Boss GT-5), has been 'acting up' in the sense that - it shows no patches (photograph 1 ). When I turn it off and then, on, there is no change. However, one day, I turned it off and then - -  the display behaved normally. Or, rather, near normally! (photograph 2) Thankfully, the processor works just fine. It's just the display that is irksome.. especially, when I need to use a new patch. The display appears to be normal after  quite a long time- about seven to eight hours. I was wondering if anyone could throw some light on this..

The pattern on the display in your first photo is what they show when you first power them up, they stay like that until you send them some data to display. Therefore it could just be a bad connection to the display, could be as simple as a dodgy socket or ribbon cable if it uses one, first thing I'd do is check or resolder all the connections to the display.
