build report: CE-1 works! but LFO led stays on...

Ok so i managed to get my CE-1 completed and working. everything seems to work like it should.

schematic errors corrected on the layout:
C42 is .47 instead of .047
R28 and R29 are switched, D4 and D3 too.
the diode at C42 and R68 is not D13 but D10.
R2 comes before C2.

components i subbed:
uPC1458 -> CA1458G
2SA733Q -> BC557
2SC900F -> BC549
2SA493GR -> BC560
2SB434 -> BD242C
2SD234 -> BD241C
1S1555 -> 1N4148
1N4003 -> 1N4007
all .47 elcos ->  .47 film caps
all 250pF -> 220pF
100K-C pot -> 1M pot with parallel 180K resistor and R89 -> 120K  (with a parallel resistor calculator and RG's secret life of pots calculations this should be close to the normal 100K-C and 220K R89)

the only thing that isn't right (i think) is the led that should be blinking with the LFO. it just stays lit all the time. any ideas what i should look into?

for soundclips just go with recordings of any stock CE-1, it should be identical ;-)

But we NEED of soundclips and layout!  Ce-1 has a particoular sound, and there are many "clones", but the sound is "just" similar...maybe your clone is the " right clone"!!!

as far as i know there is 1 clone that has some mods to it, the retrosonic chorus. i don't know of any other clones.
this one is made with the original layout (adapted for the smaller modern components so it's about half the size) so it's circuit is identical to an original CE-1. except for what i stated in my first post, but those things shouldn't really do anything to the sound. there is absolutely nothing modified or special in there. and soundclips will sound like an old CE-1. which i think is a decent but not amazing chorus.

i'd like to know where to look to solve the LFO LED problem tough.

at R62 where the schem indicates 0.5-3VAC i have 4.5VAC. at the led (D101) i have 13VDC instead of the LFO AC voltage.

measured voltages again, a little more precise this time: At pad 21 i have -14,84Vdc
at pad 11 i have a constant -13,28Vdc
at the junction of R62, R75 and D9 i have a varying voltage going from 0.54Vdc to -3.15Vdc
at the other side of R62, the gate of Q14 i have -0.696Vdc

i guess this is all quite close to what it should be. i'm trying to figure out how Q14 should work. i'm guessing it's a switch that has to vary the voltage to the anode of the led (pad 11) from -14Vdc to something more positive. and R59 is the current limiting resistor. am i right? then i'm completely clueless why it doesn't switch on and off :p

i have a few more hours to get this fixed :p

I had my hands on an original CE-1 about a year ago, and from what I remember the LFO LED was always on.  So... either that one had the same problem, or it's just how the CE-1 is designed.

it was just a stupid short between 2 transistor legs

indeed, that led is always on. but it should blink when the effect is not bypassed and it didn't do that
