I purchased a Boss Ds1 with a M5223AL. Before even testing the pedal I keeley modded it Ultra/ASE. The blue check light and both red led's light up. The problem I'm having is that I'm not getting any distortion. The clean works fine, but when I engage the gain it goes quiet. Please help!!!

Is it possibly the IC? It came with a power adapter that I was trying to use with it but it wouldn't work with the pedal. The adapter just heated up alot. If it's the IC should I get a OPA2134PA?

Ditch the Power adapter for now , and run it on a Good 9v battery .
Your going to have to retrace your last know changes to the board and recheck your work .
Sounds like you have a bad solder , wrong value component in a location , broken wire etc .
It could be any number of things ....

Post some pics of the components side and the Solder side , we may be able to spot it that way !

Please excuse the poor solder job, I'm a newbie

I'm on my phone I'll fix the picture embedding when I get home

If you have any closer pics , that would be cool .

Take them from the side as well so we can see all the solders and components legs etc ...

It's hard to say , but i would reflow all the solder's that you did during the mod ... On the board there is a tiny S , and just to the right of it is a solder that looks suspicious to me ...

Look close at all the solder pads for a broken trace .... gently wiggle each component while looking at each solder , sometimes they look like a proper solder , but they are broken .

Also check all your wires from the board to the pots , its happened to me during some mods were the wires break = No audio !

ok, this may be a little late to help you, but i think i know what's going on (although please keep in mind i didn't read all the text! just looked at the closeups...) - the last time i did this one for a customer, say 2 or 3 weeks ago, as i recall the diode that is soldered to that "left" side of the 47pf silver mica cap you install in D4 looks like it is backwards per the way i always build it. i dont have my notes on hand, i will check and if i remember (and if im wrong) then ill try to post that, but until then, i would say its a very good thing to go ahead and change the direction of that 1n4148 (removed from D4 or D5) and point the strip towards the leg of the cap it is soldered to...if you have no sound in that mode, that would be why, but it would seem u would have none or awful at least, sound if this diode is backwards...hope that helps!
