Hi Merlinb,

Firstly, many thanks for taking the time to send me the voltages on pin 8 they were a great help.

Now the good news! I replaced C5 and C6 with non elec 1uf capactors and the voltages of pin 8 tracked your within 0.02v and the circuit now works fine.  Although I don't understand the solution, I'm just pleased its now working.
