"Noisemaker" Transistors

A hand-selected 2N2712 was always the go-to device for this job:



I have a bunch of GE Made-In-Syracuse TO-98 house-number parts:



and I find that they go into Zener-noise mode nicely with a 12 Volt supply. About half of them are considerably more noisy than the rest. I'd like confirmation that these would be useful for random hissiness, so, if you would like one to try out, drop me a message at the smallbearelec address. I will respond to the first three or four requests that I get.

I am bumping this up because I have confirmation of what I suspected: These are good noise-makers for synths and other apps. Scott Stites was nice enough to scope a few that I had rough-sorted, and he says that they are good for 100 to 150 mv. of noise before amplifying. If you are willing to sort your own, please feel free to buy bulk. I will probably offer sorted pieces at some point, but have to get a test setup built and operator trained.
