Dynacomp mods for bass use?

A friend of mine loves the "feel" of the Dynacomp and wants to use it for bass but it sucks too much low end out.

1 - Is it worth modding to a "bass spec"?
2 - If yes, is it as simple as increasing the input/output cap values?
3 - If it's not worth it, is there a better compressor for bass?

Thanks for the time and help.

there there are a couple of problems with this pedal for bass.. you can modify the input and output such that the gain stages allow for more low end, but the envelope detection circuit itself is where I find the circuit fails for bass. I find it is overly sensitive to the powerful signal swing of the low end content of bases, which is to say that the compression react to strongly to low end peaks.. I have a blender Petlad built basically to run a clean signal in parallel with whatever effects.. it has various filters that go in and out of the effects loop, so what I do is blend an unaffected dry bass signal with the compressor signal; going into the compressor I cut some lows so that the response is more even and usable

I guess if I were to actually address your questions lol...
1. No, at least not as far as I have achieved or heard of. perhaps if he plays four strings and is a hold-it-down kind of bassist..

2) no

3) the afterlife/flatliner is amazing, as is John patents bearhug.. I highly recommend either to any bassist I highly recommend either to any bassist. many others will disagree and I'm certainly not trying to start a flame war but I did not like the Merlin compressor at least on bass.. I feel like all of the functions work fine but I do not find that they lend themselves to a musical result, ymmv. there's a schematic for the diamond compressor floating around.. it is great for bassists, both in my opinion and according to the masses. it's not the simplest build, but it's not the hardest either. and a lot of websites break the diamond down into circuit blocks, so it's not crazy hard to build a simplified version that still has nice action and feel

Does he like the feel on guitar, or on bass (but wants more bass response) ?
I personally never liked dyna/ross comps for bass - they just don't feel right. If he likes the feel on bass though, go for it. Beefing up the audio path caps should do it - start with the output cap I think.
If he likes the feel on guitar, be prepared to tinker, it does NOT do that on bass.
