Ink jet clear stock - clear coat as adhesive?

Picked up some clear 8 1/2" x 11" clear, for ink jet printers. Non-adhesive backed. I'll clear coat the upper exposed surface, but does clear coat do well as an adhesive, to hold the thing down to the enclosure?   1 coat?  Maybe put on a little thicker than if you were finishing the box, or no?  If figure with the clear stock you can push out any bubbles with the risk of damaging a decal.

I think Frequencycentral used clearcoat as an adhesive and he may have left a tutorial around here someplace on his process.
