hey Guys,

So I am building the tremulus moon using the tonepad schematic and board. I was wonderning if anyone can explain the sym mod to me. I am having a heck of a time craking this nut! thanks

tonepad links - grrrr .....

hello and welcome, seshoem, I couldn't see the symm mod at the end of your link; is this the thing?

http://commonsound.org/tremulus/pcb2.4.1/schematic.pdf

if so, the symm mod diodes control the charge and discharge of the oscillator timing cap C6, as they will only conduct in one direction. the particular diode controls the direction, and the amount of resistance between the diode and the timing cap determines the slope of the ramp, so with the FINE/SYM pot all the way to one end, you will have a very steep ramp and slow incline/decline. with the pot to the mid-point, the wave would be symmetric-ish.

or did you mean the acyual wiring/linking of the board?
"Bring on the nonsense".

Sweet, thanks for the explanation of what is actually going on with the sym mod. Yeah I'm trying to figure out how to actually wire the pots to the board in order to get the sym effect. I can't seem to find a diagram of ppl doing it using the tonepad pcb.

I was having a look around for you and found this.

Down the bottom of the page has a diagram

seshoem1

Awesome, thanks. Do you think this looks correct?

lukeferg

Are you using the fine control. I didn't and it works fine  ;D

That will change the wiring, let me double check that diagram

lukeferg

Yeah looks good to me. And some way more experienced people than me have OK'd it as well.
Here's a layout with the fine and symmetry controls if you wanted it.

Awesome,  thanks a lot man. Yeah I plan on keeping the fine pot out of it. From everything I have read,  it's pretty useless. This is only my second build so I'm still learning alot everyday
