What are you favorite small/simple circuits?

I'd like to do a few 1590a boxes with easy circuits that are well documented (vero boards).  Is there anything you really like that's compact and not too complicated.

Well documented veros for 1590a? Sounds like that would be rather limiting.  If you could work from a schematic I think you would greatly increase the breadth of possibilities. Ever try? From schematic to breadboard? Not as hard as people seem to think.

A simple non-inverting opamp boost is always nice to have, and does double-duty as a buffer if the gain is turned down to 1x. With minor modifications you could add a switch that adds or removes some clipping diodes to make it a triple-duty box.

I also like my "magic box", essentially just a rotary switch that connects different grounded capacitors in parallel to the signal path to simulate the effect of higher capacitance cables. I use it on my bass all the time, and it's passive (and reversible!).  It should work well for guitar too. Try starting with 100pF to make a 6ft cable sound like a 10ft cable, and work up in steps to 22nF or so. You can also add a grounded pot wired as a variable resistor, either 500k in series with the capacitor to turn it into an external tone control or 1M in parallel to adjust the resonant peak height.

A one-knob fuzz would a good choice too.

COT50 and Earthquaker speaker cranker are very good preamp/distortions

EA tremolo and orange squeezer compressor is algo very good and simple

I can go from a circuit diagram if it's pretty simple, but it takes me a lot of time to figure out what's going on.

Keep the suggestions coming.

LPB-2.   Try doing one on perf, before long you won't feel limited anymore  ;)

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

My votes: ROG Omega, ROG Pepper Mill, Joe Davisson's EZ-250 overdrive.  Did all these with my own vero layouts.
