Thank you, good sir, for the info.  FWIW, the Cougars were about $400 when they came out, I got mine new several years later at about $150.  Did a few physical mods for to reduce wear.  A few cents worth of nylon can go a long way!  Tried to put in better pots, hand made little aluminum brackets and everything...learned a hard lesson about "effective electrical angle."  Thrustmaster has since come out with a hall effect sensor model.  Pretty sweet, but very expensive!
