Alright. I always have this problem. I cannot find this component in diptrace. Does anyone know which pot to choose for the proper spacing, etc? It's the right angle pot tayda has: http://www.taydaelectronics.com/100k-ohm-linear-taper-potentiometer-round-shaft-pc-mount-4284.html

I see everyone doing these damn board mounted pot layouts. Surely, not everyone is just spacing out their pads 5mm and drawing rectangles around them to make them look like pots on the silk-screening.

Your help is appreciated.

I got tired of looking for patterns in the libraries so I made my own. Here's what I use for the 16mm board mounted pots: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8x45fdt6b4xav75/16MM%20R.A%20PCMOUNT%20POTS.lib?dl=0

Do you have rullywow's DIY libraries for DipTrace? They have a few different pot footprints in there.

I have the rullywow but couldn't find them in there. I would think that they would be named something similar in DT but I guess not. I even spaced out some pads and placed the cursor next to them and arrowed down through the entire library, nothing similar popped up.

Thanks uber, I don't have DT installed at work but I'll check it out when I get home!

In the "Pots" library of rullywow's library it should be any of the "Alpha 16mm" pots.

Thanks Uber. That will work. As for the rullywow, I had to go into libriaries and add potentiometers again which created pots under rullywow components. Thanks nathan. Thought I had done all that already.

It appears that I never really added the libraries under rullyow correctly and had just added the folder in the library setup window. lulz.

This isn't related to the OP but I see a lot of talk about diptrace on here. I use Eagle, is there a benefit to diptrace? I can download libraries straight from element 14/Newark of quite a few manufactures and they have a member library too for Eagle.

The biggest benefit I've found to DipTrace is how friendly it is to use. Like many people here I started on DIYLC, then moved to Eagle. DIYLC is kind of cumbersome but easy enough for non-committal use. Eagle I struggled with getting it to do what I wanted. The learning curve I found to be pretty steep. In school I was introduced to Altium, which is remarkably powerful and severe overkill for most things we do here, and also a VERY steep learning curve.

DipTrace, on the other hand, was my friend from the beginning. I didn't read a how-to, I didn't have to google anything or look through message boards for support. I was able to figure out exactly what I needed to do and it was super simple. It's also very easy to export gerber files exactly how you want them, which is a big deal to me as I have a CNC machine. It also has a really cool 3D rendering feature where if you have 3D models assigned to your footprints you can generate a 3D rendering of your board.

Super cool program, super easy to use. 8)

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with DipTrace, I am not compensated for promoting them, I just really really like them!

Interesting, I still find myself googling answers for Eagle, guess I'll check it out.
Thanks

I went from DIYLC to ExpressPCB which was o.k. but I couldn't figure out how to export Gerber files from it. The impression I got about Eagle is that the learning curve is pretty steep, as Nathan mentioned. Diptrace, otoh, not as steep. So, I skipped Eagle and got Diptrace instead.
