Hi All

I'm currently developing a layout for the G2D Morpheus

Using this schematic:

What concerns me is the tone pot(top middle on schematic).  Pin 3 is not connected to anything.

Is this good practice?  Should I just connect it to Pin 2 or ground?  I've never seen this before on other schematics.
To the extreme, I rock a mic like a vandal.
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle.

If I'm not mistaken, the pot acts as a variable resistor only, so between pins 1 and 2, full CCW, you have 0 ohms and at full CW, you have 10k ohms.
It's not splitting the signal like the Level pot does.

Pin 2 to 3. Any other connection will change the intended operation. Tying the unused end to the wiper means the resistance doesn't go to infinity if the wiper bounces on some crud. In practice, the thumps and scratches when the pot goes bad won't be so loud with the tie. It doesn't have to be done, but it is a good practice.
There are many commercial examples that don't tie them up.

This is a brutal pedal, one of the best sounding in my opinion... The gain pot doesn't have a very wide range but I like it all the way up so doesn't matter much to me anyways. The gate can be a bit tricky, the rest is pretty straight forward. Pin 3 hanging in the breeze is common but "anotherjim" summed it up well.
Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!

Has anyone tried reducing the first stage gain?

PRR

Potentiometers have 3 legs. Variable resistors have 2 legs.

In practice, they only make 3-leg pots. When you want a variable resistor, you buy a 3-leg pot and ignore one end leg. Or tie it to the center leg if going-open would be annoying.

cool, i like the gate idea...but yeah more control on the gain would be good..
i was tinkering with the 'tight metal' a while back, that had a very simple gate ..pot/diodes
which IIRC jim 'jokerx' played with too?..

all good stuff .  8)
