Tonepad MXR envelope filter issue, 18v instead of 9v

Hello to all  :icon_wink:

In 2006 I built the MXR envelope filter. And got it working. : )

Years ago I mistakingly put 18 Volts instead of 9 Volts into the stompbox. ; (the flanger 301 needs 18)

Now I want to revive this little friend.
Could someone please help.
What would be the first component to get dead if you plug in too much voltage?

Welcome!  You were at the limits of (or a tad beyond) the maximum supply voltage for the CMOS chips.  So I'd try replacing them if you have spares.  Nothing else will care about the extra volts.

15Vdc is generally as much as any CMOS chip is comfortable with.  The EF uses three of them.  Replace them all.

I bought one in 1978, owning it around the same time as I also owned a Fernandes Funky Filter ( http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/fernandes/funkyfilter ).  The MXR was for a while my favourite envelope-controlled filter, because it was the only one in production, that I knew of, which allowed for control over the speed of sweep - something that allowed for better matching of feel to the individual song.

That has since become a more standard feature, but was uncommon for the longest time.

The other thing worth checking is the capacitor voltage rating.

Agree with Mark and Kipper. Check for any caps that are 16V rated or lower. Replace 'em.

Also, replace all 3 chips. 18VDC is right at the max for those.
