HI

i built RG's fake fender vibe using Mark M's vibra-tone layout with in-built volume trim pot

still have low volume (need to use a boost with it) and it also distorts

any tips for trouble-shooting this problem?

cheers

I've never built one but there seems to be some solutions here:

I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if will be as straightforward for you as this thread implies, but it might just be one extra cap and some sheilded wire away from completion.

Turn the depth to minimum and measure the DC voltages on the drains and collectors.

Can you post a link to the schematic?  The schematic on RG's site doesn't seem to matchup with the other thread.  It's either a different build or it has been modded or fixed.  For example RG's schematic already has a gain adjuster (see Q10, C29, Tr1)

According to the water analogy of electricity, transistor leakage is caused by holes.

Thanks for the advice

The schematic I'm using is the one you posted i.e. RG's FakeFenderVib3 with the internal trim-pot

The layout I'm using is MarkM's here   http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php/v/MarkMs-Gallery/album15/album76/Vibrato+LAYOUT.png.html

Andrew,

Hope you get rid of the distortion. Unfortunately I can't give you any advice to solve this problem but I do have a question.
I noticed two pairs of matched transistors, how did you match these ?
